It is clear that the healthcare strategy for combating infectious diseases in hospital settings must take into account the growing problem of resistance, emerging diseases, opportunistic infections, use of anti-infection drugs in critical situations (ICU) or special cases (kidney and/or liver failure, pregnancy, geriatrics, immunodeficiency, etc.), together with dosage calculation and treatment monitoring.

In clinical practice, there is a need for professionals with specific training in anti infection treatment and the methodology of its application and control. This master's degree is taught online and is designed to address the above issues. To ensure that its objectives are met, special attention has been paid to its assessment system.

This involves regular objective tests, tutors' appraisals, a final project and definitive assessment by a panel of UAB lecturers assigned to the master's degree.

Barcelona's Hospital del Mar has a long tradition in treating infectious diseases, spearheaded by Dr. Drobnic and the school of Dr. P. Saballs. Known for years as the "Hospital for Infectious Diseases", it also has a tradition of teaching in this field: PhD courses like the intensive course in Antibiotics Therapy (48 editions), the two-year master's degree in Infectious Diseases (25 editions), the courses Advances in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology, Infections in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Exanthematous Diseases of Childhood, and Infections in Dermatology, the CPD course for primary-care physicians and chemists, and various seminars and conferences on infections.
