Objectives and justification

PhD Programme in Gender Studies: Cultures, Societies and Politics aims to prepare PhDs of an excellent level in the areas of feminism, women and gender using transversal and interdisciplinary approaches in the different areas of  research.

State and Catalan legislation require the inclusion of the principle of equality in terms of sex and gender perspective in both university education and the areas of research. The introduction of the interuniversity programme Gender Studies: Cultures, Societies and Politics corresponds to the current legal mandates (art. 14 CE) and helps to make them effective.

The PhD programme aims to give continuity to the training of researchers in Masters degrees about women and gender. The academic quality and result of the official interuniversity and interdisciplinary Masters degree promoted by the iiEDG provides a clear basis for doctoral studies. The interuniversity and interdisciplinary nature of the programme gives it a uniqueness and a solid base in terms both of the lecturers (experts from the different Catalan universities) and the wide range of subject areas it covers.
